Many travelers discover Lempuyang, Tirta Gangga and Taman Ujung while staying somewhere else on the island. That is not a problem. We can start the tour from your hotel and bring you into East Bali as a private day trip.

What stays different is the point of view: the route is planned by a team whose home area is East Bali. We are not treating Karangasem as three photo stops at the far end of a long drive.

Guests in Amed or Candidasa naturally have a shorter approach. Guests in Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak or Nusa Dua need an earlier start and a longer day, especially if the Lempuyang gate photo is important.

Timing depends on where you are staying.

From Amed: around 5:00 AM for the famous photograph

If the view through the split gate toward Mount Agung is your main goal, our local recommendation from Amed is to leave at about 5:00 AM and aim to reach the visitor area before 6:00 AM.

Amed is close enough to Lempuyang that this early arrival is practical without spending hours driving in darkness.

Important: an early start improves your chances of a clearer mountain view and shorter queue, but weather and cloud can never be guaranteed.

From Ubud or South Bali: plan a genuinely early start

From Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak or Nusa Dua, the drive to East Bali is much longer. If the Gate of Heaven photo is essential, the pickup time needs to be considerably earlier than it would be from Amed.

If you care more about culture, gardens and history than the famous photo, we can plan a more comfortable departure and build the day around Taman Ujung, Tirta Gangga, Samsara Living Museum or Tenganan instead.

Places many standard tours miss

East Bali is much bigger than the three famous stops.

Samsara Living Museum

A meaningful cultural stop explaining the Balinese human life cycle through ceremonies and local beliefs, from birth through life and death.

Bukit Cinta

Rice fields, palms and a powerful view toward Mount Agung when the mountain is clear. It is still less commonly recommended than the famous East Bali attractions.

Tenganan Pegringsingan

A Bali Aga village near Candidasa where traditional spatial layout, architecture, customary rules and Gringsing double-ikat weaving remain central to village identity.

Pura Gumang / Bukit Gumang

Near Bugbug on the road toward Candidasa. The hill is home to long-tailed macaques; a safe lower-road stop may suit guests who simply want to observe them.

Maha Gangga Valley

Close to Tirta Gangga, useful for guests who want rice-field scenery and a more active rural walk or trekking-style stop.

Taman Ujung deserves time

Taman Ujung was part of Karangasem's royal world, associated with rest, reception and the wider landscape of the kingdom. It deserves more than a quick photo stop.

Great experience! We booked with Amed Excursion and traveled for one week with Putu, visiting Ubud, Munduk, Amed, and Padangbai.

He was always punctual and shared a lot of interesting information about Balinese culture. He gave us excellent advice on which places to visit, made accessing the attractions easier, and drove safely throughout the trip.

Can you pick us up from Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak or Nusa Dua?

Yes. We can arrange a private East Bali tour from Ubud, Kuta, Seminyak and Nusa Dua as well as Amed, Candidasa and Tenganan. The required start time and price depend on where your hotel is located.

Is the IDR 700,000 / 850,000 price valid from every Bali area?

No. Those are the classic tour prices for pickup and return in Amed. For other areas, send us your hotel location on WhatsApp and we will quote the correct price based on distance and tour duration.

What time should we leave Amed for the Lempuyang Gate of Heaven photo?

If that specific Mount Agung gate photo is your priority, our local recommendation is to leave Amed at around 5:00 AM and aim to arrive before 6:00 AM. Weather and clouds can never be guaranteed.

What if we start from Ubud or South Bali?

If the Lempuyang photo is your priority, expect a much earlier pickup because the drive is longer. If photography is not the priority, we can plan a later and more cultural East Bali route instead.

What do you recommend if I prefer culture to Instagram photo spots?

We would consider a route built around Samsara Living Museum, Tirta Gangga and Taman Ujung, with Bukit Cinta or Tenganan added when the geography and available time make sense.
